Theological Position
I am a moderate Christian in the Presbyterian Church U.S.A. and was ordained as an Elder in 2007.
Scriptures: Old and New Testament
The scriptures, the Old and New Testament consisting of 66 books, were written across thousands of years by holy men and women who were inspired by God through the Holy Spirit to reveal His Word to humans. I freely admit that some writings do not exactly agree with others. I do not feel that invalidates the Bible as a whole.
God
I believe in the one unifying force of the universe, God the Father, whose only begotten son, Jesus of Nazareth, the Christ, died so that humans can be forgiven of sin and have eternal life.
Creation: Man & Woman
Both scientific and religious doctrine point to a single source of humanity. Christian’s say God created Adam and Eve in His image and scientists say we came from "Millennium Man" and “Lucy”.
Satan - Devil
Evil existed in the Garden of Eden. All scripture indicates that Satan is a real being and Hell is a real place. My goal is to avoid both.
Salvation
God wants us to choose to love and obey him. The consequence of this free will is we can disobey and disobedience is a sin. This sin separates us from God and we need something to bridge the gap. THE bridge is Jesus of Nazareth, the Christ. There are no other paths. Once obtained through faith in Jesus, salvation cannot be lost but continuing to sin negatively impacts our relation with God.
Death & Resurrection
Our bodies die in the natural world. Those God has chosen are resurrected in Heaven to bask in God’s splendor and wonderment.
Our Purpose: The Christian Walk
Salvation and forgiveness do not mean we just do what we want. Christians are to lead a Godly life and spread the Word. We should ask God for forgiveness and the strength to fix what’s wrong with ourselves. Because Christ died for all our sins, women can participate in all aspects of church life where they have the spiritual gifts.
The End of Days
No one knows the end of these days. I believe if I do right, then I won’t have to worry either way. It’s not any more complicated than that.
